Our Mares

Red Charisma and colt Tzadi
           Red Charisma

Red Charisma "Charm" is a 16 hand 13 year old thoroughbred mare. She has easily free jumped up to 4'3" and has schooled 3'3" under saddle at home. She has also successfully competed locally in the green hunters. Though Charm's extreme athleticism, machine like endurance and tremendous soundness (these great tb attributes coming from her top pedigree: see 5 generation ped on her webpage) would allow her to be a serious upper level 3-Day horse, her ability to be quick while maintaining sanity gives her the added potential to be an excellent amateur jumper. In addition, her lovely, long elastic gaits and relatively quiet temperament make her an excellent dressage prospect. On June 1st, 2006 Charm had a lovely colt named Tzadi by Cradilo. On April 17th, 2008 Charm presented the weanling filly Chanel, and produced the May, 2009 colt, Quinlan by Cradilo. Charm just recently produced Autumn by Cradilo, a chestnut filly, September 19, 2011. Charm will continue to be bred to Cradilo for future foals. June'smorning Star and Luna by Cradilo as weanling
                        June'smorning Star

June'smorning Star is a 11 year old 16 hand thoroughbred mare bred by Huntington Farms. June is out of Makiki and by Honest Ensign (a distance stakes winning tb racing stallion with a proponent for throwing jumpers; see Honest Fighter below) . Makiki has tremendous bloodlines in that she is by Zen, the famous open jumper producing thoroughbred stallion, on the top; and out of a mare by Poker on the bottom. Poker in turn produced the broodmare that led to the triple crown winner, Seattle Slew; making this is a top broodmare producing line in terms of athletic ability. Makiki, tb mare by Zen, and out of mare by Poker, with June'smorning Star as foal
June has received a large amount of ground work and has been backed lightly. While June shows strong free jumping potential, her most striking characteristic is her sweet temperament and her flawless, large bodied conformation. She possesses lofty, ground covering movement and is a wonderful broodmare in that she easily delivers strong, large bodied, impressive foals. On May 20th, 2007 June had her first foal, a lovely filly named Fatima by Cradilo. June also produced the May, 2009 Cradilo filly, Luna by Cradilo. June recently gave us the stunning filly Shilo by Cradilo, on June 8th, 2011. June will continue to be bred to Cradilo for future offspring.

Annie and her first foal by Cradilo, Grimes
Koganna (Annie)

Annie is a 9 year old mare by Kogan (imported Russian Akhal-Teke bred by Tito Pontecorvo-Nixon, TX) out of Porcia, (a mare bred and owned by Alex Beckwith-Paso Robles, CA) by the German imported Westfalen stallion Puritano out of a thoroughbred mare. Amy Hunter bred Annie while she had Porcia and Kogan in training in California, and purchased her back (as breeding stock) from Alex at the age of 4.

Kogan went on to successfully campaign in the big jumpers in California with Suzie Hutchison (see picture below), and represents what Tito considers to be one of his top produced Akhal-Teke jumpers (Tito Pontecorvo for years was the number one breeder and owner of the Akhal-Teke, owning up to 300 world wide at one point; see www.akhaltexas.com.)

The Akhal-Teke, like the Irish Draught, is rare (only 2000 purebreds world wide) and an incredibly important foundation breed, given their tremendous and relatively known impact on the creation of the thoroughbred. The Bryly Turk was an Akhal-Teke, and any Arab imported in to England that was called a Persion Arab (in which there were hundreds used to create the thoroughbred) was actually in fact an Akhal-Teke.

Even in thoroughbreds today, Turkish stallions can be seen in back generations (for example, HF's thoroughbred mare Vennie had a Turkish stallion - literally written as 'Turkish Stallion' - in her pedigree 5 generations back). The thoroughbred as we know it today (and thus the sport horse) simply would not exist with out the Akhal-Teke.

It is arguably one of the oldest purebred breeds, with 17 distinct genetic lines (as opposed to the thoroughbred's 3). The horses are incredibly tough, and tend to naturally possess the quiet temperament of a dead broke school horse. This extremely easy going attitude is difficult to find in the light, athletic breeds.

They have long, elegant movement and can have a strong jump. They also have lovely, delicate features and the bonus of a coat that feels and shimmers like silk.

Annie delivered the colt Grimes by Cradilo on June 21st, 2008. On April 9, 2010 she gave us Kogan by Cradilo, another strong colt by. Annie will be bred back to Cradilo for future offspring.

Huntington Farms is the only breeding farm we know of world wide, currently consistently crossing the best of these two unusual breeds in the hopes of producing a sport horse of exceptional quality.

Monday's Glory and Calue by Cradilo as weanling
                        Monday's Glory

Glory is a 12 year old 16 hand thoroughbred mare bred by Huntington Farms. Though Glory has received quite a bit of ground work and has been lightly backed she has never been in serious training. Despite this, Glory has shown tremendous jumping potential. She easily free jumps 4'3" with an extremely high and tight knee and wonderful bascule. Vennie's knightout and Monday's Glory as a weanling We are very interested in her as breeding stock as her mother, Vennie, has proven to be a valuable brood mare and school/show horse and her sire, Honest Ensign (the same sire as Honest Fighter's), has proven to be capable of throwing excellent jumpers. On May 21st, 2007 Glory foaled Temujin Gage, a handsome colt by the Irish Sport Horse D'artagnan (now gelded, by Cruising out of a mare by Clover Hill mare), and recently produced the June 2009 colt Junior, by Cradilo. Glory will continue to be bred to Cradilo for future offspring.

Amy S. Hunter-Clark and her American Thoroughbred mare Seattle @ WEF in Wellington, FL 2006
                        Seattle

Seattle is a 17 hand 13 year old thoroughbred mare aptly named after her great-grandfather, triple crown winner Seattle Slew. Seattle was purchased as an un-touched 2 year old from a top thoroughbred breeder. Seattle is a lovely mover, has a wonderful temperament, and steps over a 4' fence free jumping. Seattle has successfully campaigned through the schooling jumper division, winning championships @ Littlewood in Wellington, and most recently winning the 2007 Otter Creek Jumper Derby. Seattle will continue showing and we will attempt to breed her to Cradilo in the future.

Vennie's Knightout and Sunday's Truce as foal
                        Vennie's Knightout

Vennie was a 16'1" hand thoroughbred mare and was Huntington Farms first brood mare. We were instantly struck by her amazingly quiet temperament, light long movement and excellent use of her front end over jumps. She was a lovely ride, and her breeding was excellent as she had 10 top stallions in her pedigree (back to five generations) including Man O' War, Rough n' Tumble, Round Table, Boldnesian and Hyperion. We have produced several wonderful foals by Vennie (Truce and Glory) and find her genetic influence on temperament and body to be extremely strong. Sadly, Vennie was an older thoroughbred mare and is no longer with us. She, like Honest Fighter below, was a member of the family though, and we will continue to remember her through her future offspring.

Honest Fighter, 'Snickers' and Amy working in 3'6 jumpers @ Timeless, WI 2004
        Honest Fighter

Honest Fighter (Snickers) was a 16.3 hand tb mare by Honest Ensign (a tb stallion used by Huntington Farms to produce Monday's Glory and June'smorning Star). Snickers was purchased by Huntington Farms as an untouched 3 year old bred for racing and went on to campaign very successfully in the 3'6" jumpers. She won many championships locally and was also Champion at the Littlewood Presidents Day show in Wellington, FL. Honest Fighter lived up to her name, being a wonderful competitive mare. She was incredibly bold and strong to the jumps, fast, and yet balanced and rhythmic. Snickers was our proof that Honest Ensign was a winning distance race horse with a strong ability to produce jumpers. Sadly, after Snickers was retired and bred to Cradilo, she unexpectedly died (prior to foaling) at a young age from an aneurism. Snickers @ Huntington Farms
